Miami Dolphins depth chart predictions after NFL rosters cut to 53 players
MIAMI GARDENS — The Miami Dolphins' initial roster has taken shape as they cut to 53 players before the 4 p.m. league deadline on Tuesday.
The Dolphins will be without Odell Beckham, Jr., Bradley Chubb, Cameron Goode and Isaiah Wynn for at least the first four games of the season, as they are physically unable to perform.
Cornerback Cam Smith and wide receiver River Cracraft begin the season on injured reserve.
They will be permitted to return later in the season as they have been designated to return.
Miami certainly may look to add a waived or released center, guard or defensive tackle in the next couple of days.
Here's a look at the Dolphins' 53-man roster and depth chart
Quarterbacks (2)
Tua Tagovailoa, Skylar Thompson
Thompson outperformed veteran Mike White in the preseason. And he was slightly better than White this summer. Thompson has a stronger arm, is more athletic, and costs less. The Dolphins released White Sunday morning. They'll look to add a third quarterback, perhaps one let go on Tuesday.
Wide Receivers (4)
Tyreek Hill, Jaylen Waddle, Braxton Berrios, Malik Washington
Odell Beckham, Jr., is not ready to go and will be out at least four games. Seventh rounder Tahj Washington is already out for the season. Malik Washington easily makes the team with an injury to River Cracraft. Erik Ezukanma is waived, not on the initial 53-man roster.
Running Backs (4)
Raheem Mostert, De'Von Achane, Jaylen Wright, Jeff Wilson
Chris Brooks was waived/injured so we'll see if he returns down the line in any capacity. McDaniel and the coaching staff clearly trust Jeff Wilson. This is a remarkably deep and talented group.
Fullback (1)
Alec Ingold
Pro Bowler.
Offensive Line (10)
Terron Armstead, Austin Jackson, Kendall Lamm, Aaron Brewer, Robert Jones, Patrick Paul, Jack Driscoll, Liam Eichenberg, Lester Cotton, Andrew Meyer
Miami could very well add a veteran guard before the season starts. Lester Cotton makes the roster, with Wynn not ready. Kion Smith (ACL) is unfortunately out for the season. Andrew Meyer making this team tells you the Dolphins may not be certain Brewer will be ready for the opener.
Tight end (4)
Durham Smythe, Jonnu Smith, Julian Hill, Tanner Conner
Tanner Conner sneaks onto this roster because the Dolphins are still fascinated by his unique athleticism. We're calling Hill the most under-the-radar Dolphins player of the moment.
Defensive Line (5)
Zach Sieler, Calais Campbell, Benito Jones, Da'Shawn Hand, Brandon Pili
Jonathan Harris, Neville Gallimore, Isaiah Mack and Daviyon Nixon didn't make the cut. Teair Tart has been cut. Pili makes the 53. Jones has been hurt and we don't know if he'll be ready for the season opener.
Linebacker/Edge (10)
Jaelan Phillips, Chop Robinson, Mo Kamara, David Long, Jordyn Brooks, Emmanuel Ogbah, Quinton Bell, Duke Riley, Channing Tindall, Anthony Walker
Chubb begins the season on the physically unable to perform list, meaning he'd miss at least the first four games. Channing Tindall just fails to make the cut here. Riley is added as a core special teamer. There are 10 linebackers here. Amazing. Tindall and Walker both make the cut.
Cornerback (6)
Jalen Ramsey, Kendall Fuller, Kader Kohou, Siran Neal, Ethan Bonner, Storm Duck
Bonner beat out safety/corner Nik Needham make the 53. Duck keeps alive the tradition of an undrafted cornerback making Miami's roster. Cam Smith is injured and does not make the initial 53-man roster.
Safety (5)
Jevon Holland, Jordan Poyer, Marcus Maye, Elijah Campbell, Patrick McMorris
Patrick McMorris is a draft pick and he's played well, though he is hurt at the moment. He makes the team in this scenario after the addition of Marcus Maye. But McMorris could certainly make the cut. Campbell and Neal can all play corner and safety.
Special Teams (2)
Jason Sanders, Jake Bailey
Bailey will work to improve in 2024. Sanders is solid. Absent here, at least for the moment, is snapper Blake Ferguson.
