Miami Dolphins roster cuts live tracker as NFL teams trim to 53 players

MIAMI GARDENS - The Miami Dolphins must get down to 53 players before Tuesday at 4 p.m.

Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel says Bradley Chubb, Isaiah Wynn and Cameron Goode will begin the season physically unable to perform, which means they'll miss at least four games.

On Monday, McDaniel said Odell Beckham, Jr.'s status is to be determined.

On Sunday, the Dolphins let go quarterback Mike White and TE Jody Fortson.

Follow along for the list of moves the Dolphins make to cut down to a 53-man roster (information gathered via league sources and media reports):

5:25 p.m.: Final cuts are out: Erik Ezukanma, Blake Ferguson gone; Cracraft, Smith on IR; Chubb on PUP

The Dolphins announced a series of moves to get down to 53.

Among them, they parted with receiver Erik Ezukanma (despite a need for depth at WR) and long snapper Blake Ferguson (leaving the team without a snapper).

On the physically unable to perform list: LB Bradley Chubb, WR Odell Beckham Jr., LB Cameron Goode and OL Isaiah Wynn. On injured reserve: WR River Cracraft, LB Wyatt Ray and CB Cam Smith. Cracraft and Smith are designated to return.

4:43 p.m.: Cam Smith headed to injured reserve

Cornerback Cam Smith, Miami's second-round pick who was seldom used last year, will start the season on injured reserve, The Miami Herald reports.

3:44 p.m.: Odell Beckham Jr. to begin season on PUP

Receiver Odell Beckham Jr., a key free-agent pickup for the Dolphins this offseason, will begin the season on the physically unable to perform list.

NFL Network reported that he had a procedure in the offseason and the Dolphins knew this was a possibility when they signed him. Beckham has not worked out with the team this entire training camp.

Beckham was signed to fill a void at WR3 behind Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle.

His injury is compounded by injuries to receivers River Cracraft and Erik Ezukanma. The third receiver role, for now, might fall into the hands of Braxton Berrios, rookie Malik Washington or a player the Dolphins add. Or they could rely on a formation with two wide receivers and two tight ends.

Beckham will be eligible to come off PUP after games vs. Jacksonville, Buffalo, Seattle and Tennessee. His Dophins debut could come Oct. 6 at New England.

2:15 p.m.: Chris Brooks loses out in RB competition

Second-year player Chris Brooks was waived injured.

The remaining running backs are Raheem Mostert, De'Von Achane, fullback Alec Ingold, rookie Jaylen Wright and Jeff Wilson Jr.

1:10 p.m.: Nik Needham odd man out in secondary

Nik Needham, who beat the odds to make the team as an undrafted free agent out of UTEP in 2019, has been released.

Needham appeared in 61 games, starting 27. He recorded 199 tackles, intercepted six passes, had 25 passes defensed, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery.

He has seen time at safety and corner but found himself in a crowded secondary that included veteran Siran Neal, who has made an impact on special teams; Cam Smith, a second-rounder just a year ago; veteran Marcus Maye and sixth-round pick Patrick McMorris, who has flashed.

12:55 p.m.: QB C.J. Beathard, who has ties to Mike McDaniel, is available

A quarterback with some history with Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel is hitting the open market.

The Jaguars cut QB C.J. Beathard.

Beathard, 30, was taken in the third round by the 49ers in 2017 and was with them through 2020. McDaniel was an offensive assistant in San Francisco from 2017-21.

Beathard is 3-10 in 13 career starts but has appeared in 32 games for the 49ers and Jaguars.

He has completed 340 of 563 passes (60.4 percent) for 3,886 yards, 19 TDs, 14 INTs and an 82.1 rating.

Beathard's grandfather was Bobby Beathard, the Pro Football Hall of Fame who was the Dolphins' director of player personnel from 1972-77.

Bailey Zappe: The Patriots released former fourth-round pick Bailey Zappe, who went 4-4 as a starter in New England. He completed 127 of 212 passes (63.2 percent) for 2,053 yards, 11 TDs and 12 INTs for a passer rating of 78.5.

Ex-Dolphins QB Jacoby Brissett remains on New England's roster.

Desmond Ridder, who turns 25 Saturday, was released by the Cardinals. Ridder was Atlanta’s third-round pick in 2022 out of Cincinnati. His career record is 8-9. He has completed 322 of 503 passes (64 percent) for 3,544 yards, 14 touchdowns and 12 INTs. His career rating is 84.1.

11:45 a.m.: LB Curtis Bolton let go

Curtis Bolton, who previously played for Detroit and Las Vegas, was released. Bolton has 16 career tackles in 28 games with the Lions and Raiders.

11:20 a.m.: FAU's Ja'Quan Burton doesn't make the cut

Two more players released are WR Ja'Quan Burton of FAU and DT Neville Gallimore.

Burton had a reported 40 time of 4.36 and a vertical leap of 46-plus inches. He played at Jones High in Orlando, Southern Illinois and Iowa Central before walking on at FAU.

2:45 p.m.: Former Dolphins (Matt Breida, Bobby McCain), other players of note who have been released

Also, DB Kelvin Joseph, a former second-round pick of Dallas who was traded to Miami in the Noah Igbinoghene deal, was let go by the Chiefs.

Former Hurricanes DB Sheldrick Redwine was released by the Cowboys.

Ex-Dolphins RB Matt Breida was cut by the 49ers.

Ex-Dolphins OL Jesse Davis was let go by the Saints.

Two defensive tackles have been released: Isaiah Mack and Robert Cooper. Also cut was receiver Mike Harley Jr., who played at UM.

Mack was signed March 5 and previously played for Tennessee, New England and Baltimore.
