Miami Dolphins training camp: Tyreek Hill spills on Tua Tagovailoa contract, his contract

MIAMI GARDENS — Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill opened up on the eve of training camp about his contract and the contract situation of star quarterback Tua Tagovailoa.

Hill would like a new contract.

Tua would like a new contract.

Training camp practices begin Wednesday. They're open to the media. Open practices to the public will come later on in camp.

Here is some of what Hill said Tuesday in a meeting with local reporters:

  • Hill says he is excited. He hasn't been this excited since the birth of his first daughter. He looks forward to working with Tua and Jaylen Waddle.

  • Hill says Odell Beckham, Jr. addition opens up a lot of windows for the team.

  • Hill says Tua is in great spirits. He says Tua's contract is his personal business. Hill says Tua is in the building.

  • Hill says he believes Tua will practice - despite ongoing contract situation - because Tua doesn't want to fall behind and because Tua is so competitive. He believes Tua believes this is a very good team and he wants to take advantage of this window.

  • Hill downplays the 2,000-yard goal he set last year. He said that was selfish. He's focused now on team goals. Hill wants to win a playoff game. He wants to lead the team to a Super Bowl.

  • Hill is against the ban of the hip-drop tackle. Hill says he needs to protect himself.

  • Like Tyler Lockett, Tyreek says getting to the ground is a way to protect himself.

  • Hill says he has done stem cell treatment in Antigua to regenerate cells in his body and regulate blood flow.

  • Hill says he told agent Drew Rosenhaus to make sure he does not get traded. He is not sure if a contract adjustment or extension will happen before the season. Hill does not want to leave.
