FSU football quarterback Brock Glenn embracing the challenge of starting vs. Clemson
Brock Glenn is not shying away from his opportunity to start on Saturday vs. Clemson.
Following a 1-4 start to the season for Florida State football and an injury to DJ Uiagalelei's hand that could keep him out for weeks, Glenn is set to make his third career start.
The redshirt freshman quarterback last started vs. Georgia in the Orange Bowl after starting in the ACC Championship game vs. Louisville. He feels both games have helped him prepare for this week.
"Both were great opportunities. They've given me good game experience," Glenn said. "Obviously two good teams in Lousiville and Georiga. Just seeing how fast the speed of the game is in a real game has helped a lot. That's helped me translate it to practice as well."
Glenn appeared in five games for the Seminoles in 2023, going 19-for-51 for 229 yards and two interceptions, while adding a rushing touchdown. He replaced Uiagalelei in the fourth quarter in the 42-16 loss vs. SMU.
He was a four-star recruit out of Lausanne Collegiate School in Covington, Tennessee and he initially committed to play for Ohio State before flipping to FSU.
Sitting behind Uiagalelei for the first five weeks of the season, Glenn now enters a stretch of games for FSU that includes No. 15 Clemson, Duke (Friday, Oct. 18) and at No. 8 Miami (Saturday, Oct. 26). The Seminoles are off Saturday, Oct. 12.
While it is the start of the hardest portion of FSU's schedule, Glenn is excited about the challenge.
"It's awesome. That's what you come to Florida State for," Glenn said. "It's a great opportunity and you dream of playing in games like these. Just go out and have fun."
Glenn takes over for the injured Uiagalelei after the veteran recorded 1,065 passing yards, going 84-of-156 with four touchdowns and six interceptions in five games as FSU's starter.
While the timeline of the injury is uncertain, Glenn will lead an FSU offense that is looking to improve on its poor start. The Seminoles wide receivers have had far too many drops and the offensive line hasn't protected the quarterback well enough through five games.
Averaging just 15.6 points per game, ranking the team 126th out of 133 FBS schools, Glenn will be tasked with trying to get the Seminoles in the endzone vs. a strong Clemson defense.
The Tigers are allowing 25.8 points per game, including 183 rushing yards and 218.5 passing yards per game. Glenn is a dual threat and his ability to run could give the Seminoles a different way to attack the Tigers.
"They got great playmakers, they are a really good football team. Got a good D-line," Glenn said. "They're a good football team for sure."
Even with Uiagalalei out, Glenn said the veteran quarterback has been helping him in preparation for this week. He said the senior has been "awesome" in the film room and has given him and true freshman quarterbacks Luke Kromenhoek and Trever Jackson a lot of confidence.
Glenn said he's talked with former FSU and current Jets quarterback Jordan Travis this week. He and Travis had a strong relationship last season and Glenn said he's helping him get his mind right for Clemson.
While a redshirt freshman, Glenn is embracing a leadership opportunity as the team's starter and he hopes to give his team a boost.
"Just trying to show my confidence in myself and my confidence in my receivers and playmakers as well as the O-line," Glenn said. "Just trying to build confidence in everyone around me and myself as well."
