Florida State football QB DJ Uiagalelei could miss weeks, officially ruled out vs. Clemson

(This story was updated with new information).

Florida State football head coach Mike Norvell confirmed Tuesday that DJ Uiagalelei will not play in Saturday's home game against Clemson.

Uiagalelei suffered an injury to his right throwing hand in the fourth quarter at SMU last Saturday.

Norvell said the injury will likely keep the transfer quarterback out longer than just the Clemson game. FSU's schedule in October features games at Duke (Friday, Oct. 18) and at Miami (Saturday, Oct. 26). The Seminoles are off Saturday, Oct. 12.

"He's going to be out for this Saturday," Norvell said. "We've still got some further testing to see what the longevity of that is going to keep him out, but that will most likely be the next couple of weeks."

Brock Glenn replaced Uiagalelei in the fourth quarter against the Mustangs. He did not complete any of his four pass attempts on the two drives he played.

Glenn is expected to start his third career game Saturday and first since the Orange Bowl loss to Georgia. According to Norvell, Glenn had a solid day of practice on Tuesday, as well as true freshman Luke Kromenhoek.

Norvell said that the circumstances that led to Glenn playing last season have prepared him for starting against the Tigers, and his teammates have belief in him.

Saturday's kickoff is 7 p.m. on ESPN.

"He's built for it," Norvell said.

"I love his energy. His teammates respect that work and the investment he makes. He's got a great bounce to him. I see a lot of those similar characteristics with Luke as well. Just excited about those guys and them embracing the challenge."

"There's no question Brock has earned his respect here in his time in Tallahassee. Guys really enjoy what he brings."

In the five games in 2023 season Glenn went 19-for-51 for 229 yards and two interceptions. He scored one rushing touchdown.

Uiagalelei has recorded 1,065 passing yards, going 84-of-156 with four touchdowns and six interceptions in five games as FSU's starter.

He previously played at Clemson (2020-2022) at Oregon State (2023) before he transferred to FSU.
