Duchess of Cambridge is striking in red Alexander McQueen for Berlin party
Yesterday, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge (with Prince George and Princess Charlotte in tow) landed in Berlin for the second part of their royal tour.
While the day was spent meeting political figures and being greeted by a cheering crowd of 2000 people, Kate and William swapped their diplomatic daywear for some more party-appropriate outfits in the evening.
Attending a belated birthday party held in honour of the Queen, Kate opted for one of her favourite designers, Alexander McQueen. The Duchess arrived in a Bardot-style red dress that is currently on sale for £1453. She’s already been likened to the flamenco lady emoji.
The off-the-shoulder ruffled gown was paired with a pair of nude scalloped sandals by Prada. Kate chose a new British designer for her accessories, sporting a pair of red beaded earrings by Simone Rocha.
Showing off your shoulders may seem slightly controversial for a royal but Kate has donned the Bardot look several times in the past. Her most notable was at the 2017 BAFTAs where she donned another Alexander McQueen number; though this time, it was a much more gothic affair.
During the royal tour, the Duchess has chosen a number of outfits that correspond with the country’s national colours. In Poland, she was seen in various white looks with Princess Charlotte donning a red-and-white outfit.
Considering red is one of Germany’s national colours, it looks like Kate will be wearing the vibrant shade a few more times during her three-day stay.
At Wednesday night’s reception, Prince William gave his second speech of the tour, choosing the time to speak openly about Brexit and “remaining firm friends” with Germany.
“This relationship between the United Kingdom and Germany really matters,” the royal began. “It is the product of many years of working closely together. It will continue despite Britain’s recent decision to leave the European Union. I am confident we shall remain the firmest of friends.”
Today, Kate and William will visit the cities of Heidelberg where they will meet cancer researchers. They will then take a trip to a British-German market to enjoy the local food and drink.
Afterwards, a friendly rowing competition will take place. (We eagerly wait for the couple’s competitiveness to show its face once again.)
This evening, the Duke and Duchess will attend yet another reception held in one of Berlin’s oldest ballrooms.
