Germany advanced past the quarterfinals with a 76-63 win over Greece on Tuesday. France advanced with an 82-73 win over Canada on Tuesday.

Germany vs France prediction in 2024 Paris Olympic semifinals

France delivered the surprise of the tournament so far when it earned a quarterfinals win over Canada. It maximized its size advantage by going to work down low, and Guerschon Yabusele scored a team-high 22 points after he got the start over Rudy Gobert.

But France won't have as much of a size advantage against Germany, which boasts NBA bigs such as Daniel Theis and Moritz Wagner. And while French guard Isaia Cordinier came alive against Canada, I have more confidence in Dennis Schroder and Germany's backcourt.

Germany earned an 85-71 win over France in group play. The rematch will be much closer, but the final result will still be the same.

Prediction: Germany 80, France 76

I have to agree with Justin here. Mo Wagner and Theis feel significant. If the bar is being better than Dwight Powell, then Germany is already at a significant advantage.

What I didn't anticipate in declaring Canada a quarterfinal winner, even with its glaring weaknesses, was that France's role players would actually look like the Dream Team. Watching Jamal Murray and Powell navigate the pick-and-roll together felt like watching cave men discovering fire.

I have to imagine that, with Moritz and Theis around, Yabusele and Mathias Lessort won't dominate the way they did Tuesday. As talented as Victor Wembanyama is, it feels like he's leveraged his playmaking at times more than his size to score. Schroder will inevitably score, and regardless of Rudy Gobert's murky injury issues, Franz Wagner will torpedo toward the rim again.

It'll be close, especially with the momentum France is riding, but I'll rock with Germany.

Prediction: Germany 86, France 83
