USA Basketball vs Brazil recap: LeBron James, United States advance to Olympic semifinals

The United States men's basketball team will begin the 2024 Paris Olympic knockout stages with a quarterfinals game against Brazil on Tuesday.

Team USA earned the top seed in the eight-team, single-elimination bracket after it went 3-0 in Group C play. Brazil went 1-2 in Group B play.

Quarterfinals: Germany-Greece | Australia-Serbia | Canada-France | United States-Brazil

FINAL: USA 122, Brazil 87 | Team USA advances to semifinals vs. Serbia

Team USA secured a 122-87 victory, and Anthony Edwards led the way with 17 points and six rebounds. James recorded 12 points and nine assists.

Caboclo led Brazil with a game-high 30 points to go along with six rebounds. George De Paula scored 15 points off the bench.

Brazil has been eliminated from the tournament. Team USA will face Serbia in the semifinals at 2 p.m. CT Thursday.

End third quarter: USA 94, Brazil 71 | Kevin Durant becomes all-time leading scorer in men’s and women’s U.S. Olympic history

Kevin Durant became the all-time leading scorer in men's and women's U.S. Olympic history during the third quarter. He surpassed Lisa Leslie's record of 488 points.

Booker scored nine points in the third quarter, bringing his team-high total to 18 points. Caboclo continued his strong outing for Brazil by scoring 15 points in the quarter, which brought his game-high total to 24 points.

Halftime: USA 63, Brazil 36 | Joel Embiid sends United States into halftime with comfortable lead

The United States ended the second quarter on a 15-0 run, and Embiid led all scorers at halftime with 14 points. James also poured in 10 points, eight assists and two steals for the United States.

Caboclo and Huertas scored nine points apiece for Brazil.

End first quarter: USA 33, Brazil 21 | LeBron James, United States jump out to early lead

The United States took control early on, and James quarterbacked the offense. He recorded five assists to go along with four points and two steals.

Caboclo did his best to keep Brazil within striking distance. He led the team with seven points.

Team USA will start Stephen Curry, Jrue Holiday, Devin Booker, LeBron James and Joel Embiid.

Brazil will start Raul Neto, Marcelo Huertas, Gui Santos, Leo Meindl and Bruno Caboclo.
