Update: The start of FSU vs. UCF has been delayed by weather. It is now scheduled to start at 5 p.m.
The Florida State softball team continues in the 2024 NCAA softball tournament today when it faces UCF in the Tallahassee Regional for the second year in a row.
FSU, the No. 15 seed in the 2024 NCAA tournament, beat Chattanooga 3-2 on Friday. UCF beat Auburn 11-6. The winner advances to Sunday's regional championship, while the loser will have to play again tonight against the winner of Auburn-Chattanooga for the other spot Sunday. The NCAA regional round is double-elimination, so if the FSU-UCF winner loses Sunday, the teams will play again for a berth in the super regionals.
The Seminoles (44-14, 19-5 in ACC) came into the NCAA tournament with the sixth-best offense in the nation led by sluggers Michaela Edenfield, Kalei Harding and star freshman Jaysoni Beachum. FSU's other star freshman, Isa Torres, drove in the tying run Friday with a sacrifice fly in the sixth inning before a Devyn Flaherty triple gave them the lead for good. The Knights (31-23, 12-15 in Big 12) are led by All-Big 12 first-team pitcher Sarah Willis, who pitched five innings in relief to pick up the win vs. Auburn, and first baseman Shannon Doherty, whose three-run home run sparked a six-run sixth inning.
