Teatum Jones celebrates diversity of womanhood at London Fashion Week show
This season, London Fashion Week design duo Teatum Jones dedicated their AW18 line to ‘Global Womanhood’.
Catherine Teatum and Rob Jones, the pair behind the label, asked 25 women to recall their favourite memories of joy, happiness and hope.
And before the show kick-started, a short film projected their moving answers to the crowd with the likes of transgender model, Munroe Bergdorf, speaking candidly about their personal experiences.
And the theme of diversity continued, as the sound dimmed down and the runway lit up.
Neelam Gill led the model pack, stepping out in a fuchsia-tinged tent dress before an army of women followed in super-sized sleeves and saccharine-hued suits.
But most notably, it was a sartorial celebration of diversity with mature women and amputee model, Kelly Knox, debuting the collection.
Though it’s not the first time the London label has shone a spotlight on diverse womanhood, as amputee models showcased the brand’s SS18 collection too, as part of a year-long examination of the human form.
And the season before that, the design duo asked two disabled models to walk the runway on behalf of the label.
But with an industry which is readily embracing diversity (just look at JW Anderson’s gender-fluid line or Christopher Bailey’s LGBTQ-inspired collection), here’s hoping it will soon no longer take a headline for acceptance.
