Teatum Jones makes the case for diversity with amputee models at London Fashion Week SS18

Catherine Teatum and Rob Jones – the duo also known as Teatum Jones – have been pushing for diversity for a while now. Last season, the pair used two disabled models in their collection, hitting headlines everywhere.

The invite for their latest show caused even more mania thanks to a photo of a naked man chasing a horse.

At the designers’ SS18 show, it was revealed that this collection was a continuation of Teatum Jones’ 12 month-long examination of the human form.

So it made sense to include multiple versions of what the human form can look like this time round.

The designers should be applauded for casting two amputee models to walk in the show, amplifying the natural easy-to-wear look of the Spring/Summer collection.

Pale blue and pink dresses featured heavily; some with high Victoriana collars, others printed with black garden plants.

The Prairie-style designs were combined with olive Bardot knits and fluffy slip-on shoes with the odd striped combo appearing.

A video entitled ‘The Body Part Two’ played in the background featuring Paralympic dressage rider Natasha Baker, adding an even stronger diversity angle to the show. In fact, the Paralympian – who has no feeling in her legs – was the inspiration for the entire collection.

The loose breezy tailoring and natural beauty look made for a relaxed SS18 debut that proved that everyone has a place in the fashion industry – whether certain designers choose to show it or not.
