Is this year's most-wanted children's toy really worth its £60 price tag?

A mum has taken to social media to vent her disappointment about one of this year’s ‘must-have’ Christmas toys.

Ciara Umar bought the £59.99 LOL Big Surprise for her daughter Elisa as a pre-Christmas treat after seeing the hype surrounding the toy’s smaller version.

The mega limited edition version that Ciara bought claims to contain a collectible doll and 49 other separate gifts to unwrap.

But after watching her daughter opening the toy, Ciara was left disappointed and took to Facebook to warn other parents.

“So Elisa got the big lol surprise today,” she wrote. “I would definitely not recommend if you don’t want to waste your money the pic on the right is all you get just pre warning yas.”

She later added: “I was mortified when I saw the contents. Don’t get me wrong, she was over the moon opening them and had five baths with the bath bombs, but then just went back to her iPad. The novelty wore off within 15 minutes.”

“She got what was in the picture then there was five more surprises in the bath bombs. It’s an absolute waste of money, it’s not even a full ball either, it’s only half a ball as the back is flat.”

Since sharing, Ciara’s post has been shared over 7,000 times and has clocked up hundreds of comments from other parents.

“I know I already got it nearly died at the counter when I saw the size of it defo not worth the money,” one woman wrote.

“Its shocking for the price think kids just like the opening them people would be better off making their own,” another user agreed.

But not everyone was disappointed in the toy and some said they had proved to be a huge hit with little ones.

“My granddaughter loves her’s plays with them all the time,” one woman wrote. “Unfortunately they know how to charge for these things but worth it to see her smile and not to buy something that would be a real waste of money that she isn’t going to play with.”

The LOL Surprise comes in different sizes and ranges in price from £5.99 to the £59.99 for the ‘Big Surprise’.

More than half a million of the smaller LOL toys have been sold in the UK since it was launched in March and it is now the nation’s best-selling toy. It has also made this year’s most-wanted Christmas toys list.

A spokesperson from MGA Entertainment, the makers of the LOL toys said: “LOL Surprise is currently the best-selling toy in the UK and a number of other countries. Prices range from £5.99 for the LOL Tots to £59.99 for the Big Surprise.”

“The LOL Big Surprise contains 50 exclusive surprises that can’t be found in other LOL products which individually are valued higher than the total RRP.”
