Line of Duty fans say 'this is next level' as they go wild over cast reunion for unexpected Christmas ad
Line of Duty fans are going wild over the latest Christmas advert from upmarket supermarket chain Waitrose. The brilliant festive offering reunites Martin Compston and Vicky McClure ahead of the retailer's sister company, John Lewis' 2024Christmas ad campaign.
The pair are sat watching television in their Christmas jumpers when a whodunnit unfolds on the screen they are watching and their investigative skills kick in. Last week Martin posted a live video another reunion of them going around central London with Adrian Dunbar in one of those light-up rickshaws, blasting out songs - which we now know was a hint at what was to come.
The trio played the roles of Steve Arnott, Kate Fleming, and Ted Hastings in the adored BBC police drama which last aired in 2021 after almost a decade on screens In the new Waitrose advert that was released on Thursday, November 7, a cake has been stolen and a brother and sister, the cat, and the grandmother are all in the frame.

It starts with Vicky saying: "This is nice mate." While Martin replies, "It has been too long," tipping the wink to long-term Line of Duty fans who'll know their use of "mate" in the series is plentiful.
But while watching television, there is a scream and Martin tells Vicky to "run that back". They watch and he asks: "Are you thinking what I am thinking?" Vicky replies, "Yes mate. We've got ourselves a case."
They come up with a list of culprits and Martin says: "Time to kick this investigation into gear." Vicky says: "Now we are cooking with gas" as To Be Continued comes up on the screen.
Fans love it with one saying: "Love, love, love." It has more than 18,000 likes in just a couple of hours. Another wrote: "SHUT UP! This has gone next level. I am buzzing!!!!!
Waitrose said: "When watching the TV, ends up becoming an investigation! Share your theories below to help us turn up the heat. Will we crack the case in part 2?"
It's now known whether the Waitrose ad with the stars is going to be connected to this year's highly anticipated John Lewis offering, which was teased over the weekend - more on that, here.
The ad with Vicky and Martin is the supermarket's second star-studded festive commercial, over the weekend their Christmas campaign kicked off with a playful advert titled Sweet Suspicion, A Waitrose Mystery. The ad, centred around a classic 'whodunnit?' plot, boasts a star-studded cast including Succession's Matthew Macfadyen, comedian Joe Wilkinson, Sex Education's Rakhee Thakrar and Fleabag's Sian Clifford.
