KFC is bringing its 'most successful' burger ever to the UK and social media can't handle it
KFC’s most popular burger is heading to the UK and chicken fans are losing it.
There’s been some big news in fast food this year. Mcdonalds’ hamburger straws became the latest weird food fad to hit Instagram, Burger King created an ‘adults meal’ especially for Valentines day and Dominos introduced a pizza-shaped engagement ring. Yes, really.
But wait, because the biggest news in fast food is yet to come because KFC is bringing its most popular burger to British shores. Shut. The. Front. Door.
The company says the Double Down is its “most successful sandwich in history.” Unfortunately for us, since its launch in 2010, it has only been available in the US, Australia and New Zealand.
Until now, that is.
KFC announced today that the sandwich will hit British branches on October 9 and it’ll be hanging around for six weeks.
So what’s so special about the Double Down?
Well basically it’s a burger made entirely from chicken, including the bun.
Instead of the usual bog-standard bread bun, the Double Down has two ‘Original Recipe’ chicken fillets with a filling of bacon, Monterey Jack cheese and BBQ sauce. Sounds amazing, right?
Little wonder therefore that social media has been whipped into a frenzy since the announcement.
“The #doubledown burger from @KFC_UKI is gonna have people stealing, fighting, skipping school, and punching old people #addiction” one man tweeted.
“Omg I think #KFC just finally announced a uk release date for the #doubledown and I am HYPED!!!!” added another user.
Speaking about the fan anticipation about the Double Down launch, Jack Hinchliffe, Innovation Director at KFC UK & Ireland, said: “There’s been so much excitement for the Double Down since it first launched to the US in 2010. It’s sold out in every country that it’s been released in.”
“Fandom has gone wild over the past few years on social media, and we’ve even had reports of our customers taking things into their own hands by hacking the menu to create the sandwich.”
The Double Down will be priced from £4.79 – or from £5.79 with fries and a drink.
