Duchess of Cambridge's new hair dubbed the 'Middy-Cut': Here's how to style it
Yesterday, all eyes were definitely not on the Duchess of Cambridge’s knees.
Kate strolled into Wimbledon with a brand new hairstyle. The shorter length has now been dubbed the ‘Middy-Cut’ and will undoubtedly top the list of hairdresser requests for the next few weeks.
Hairstylist and Viviscal ambassador Philippe Tholimet gave his opinion on Kate’s brand new look: “The new haircut has one length cut at the back with long graduated layers at the front. The hair is then blow-dried with volume and then set with tongs to create a loose wave at the bottom.”
“It suits Kate but a much shorter style would make her look younger and also more individual and unique.”
Luckily, a mid-length cut is a great choice for anyone, says Tholimet. “It would suit any face shape. It’s a popular choice with women as it’s flattering, low-maintenance and versatile,” he adds.
Turns out the Middy-Cut is also great for your hair health as a fresh cut “will get rid of split ends and cut dry unhealthy bits. Hair will look thicker and fuller.”
The hairstylist also has a few tips for those looking to go for the chop. If you have a rounder face, you will need to have layers to elongate your face.
Blow-drying is essential. “It’s best to apply a thickening lotion or serum before blow-drying using a large round brush,” Tholimet says. “Try Viviscal’s Densifying Elixir and remember to pull hair away from the scalp and not blow-dry it flat against your head.”
Kate’s polka dot Dolce & Gabbana dress has also caused a stir, according to global fashion search platform Lyst. It’s currently the most searched for dress on the site with over 4000 people searching for the style since the Duchess stepped out in it yesterday.
“Here at Lyst, we’ve seen everything from elephant-shaped bags to bathrobes as outerwear see a spike in searches after being spotted on influencers, but what never fails to surprise is how much the royal family’s fashion choices affect customer buying behaviour,” Lyst editor Charlotte Austin commented.
“With around one billion people tuning into Wimbledon, it’s no wonder the most fashion-forward royal, Kate Middleton, sparked increased searches through Lyst’s 4 million product inventory – one of the quickest celebrity-inspired spikes we’ve ever seen.”
