Just last week we reported on dad blogger, Brad Kearns hilarious response to his wife’s warped logic of wanting another child while in their current sleep deprived state. And now he’s penned another blog post about his wife, this time coming to her defence after another man passed judgement on her for being ‘just’ a stay at home parent.
The 27-year-old dad-of-two took to his DaDMum Facebook page to express his anger about a stranger’s response to his wife’s role as a SAHM. Explaining that the exchange happened at a wedding when other guests asked what they did for a living, Brad wrote that while no one batted an eyelid when he told them what he did, it was entirely different when a male guest started questioning his wife, Sarah.
“And then he looks at Sarah. She is very intelligent and has been an Emergency Services Worker for over 7 years now,” the parenting blogger wrote.
“He says: ‘oh so you just stay home and look after the kids?’ I don’t know how this has become a generalisation but it f*****g stinks,” he continued.
Brad went on to say how proud he was of his wife and everything she had achieved in her life, including “more accolades and awards for service than what this bloke ever will. Yet he somehow managed to judge before he asked.”
“I love that she wants to take this time to raise our beautiful children. She will never get this time again,” he wrote.

Brad continued his post by saying that he would happily quit work and raise his two sons if he was given the opportunity, before declaring that there is nothing remotely wrong with being a stay at home parent.
“Temporary or career parent who cares. Don’t judge, don’t assume, don’t anything. Just mind your own business and let people live their life how they want to.”
Going on to praise his wife for keeping her cool during the encounter, Brad ended his post by declaring how much he loved her.
Since posting earlier this week, the empowering post has been liked more than 4.3K times and received hundreds of comments praising the dad for his honest words.
“I love the people who say “just”. They’re obviously the ones who have never just stayed home and looked after the kids,” wrote one woman.
“Well said, and thank you for calling out this guy’s behaviour,” added another.
“While it’s a privilege to be able to spend time raising your children, being a stay at home parent is hard work. There is no “just” about it. I can only assume that the guy you encountered have never been a stay at home parent. It’s incredible how some people seem to think that because you choose to take the time to raise your children yourself that somehow you’re not as valuable as those in paid employment. As if that wasn’t what you did before parental leave.”

Others were keen to point out that people will shame parents for the decisions they make, whether that’s staying home to look after children or returning to work full time.
“People will judge if you stay at home raising your kids and will judge if you go to work, there is no winning game on parenthood:( ,” one woman commented.
