Michael Bay Reveals New-Look Drift In Transformers: The Last Knight
It’s long been evident that one of Michael Bay’s chief pleasures in directing the ‘Transformers’ movies is indulging his love of top-of-the-range sports cars - and clearly the fifth movie in the series will be no exception.
On Friday, the director shared (via Twitter) the new look of Autobot Drift - in the form of a red and black Mercedes AMG GTR.
Bay wrote, “The samurai returns thanks to @MercedesAMG GT R. Looking good, Drift. #transformers @MercedesBenz ”
The Transformers Cinematic Universe (yes, that’s a thing now) introduced Drift in the last installment, ‘Transformers: Age of Extinction,’ in which he transformed into both a Sikorsky S-97 Raider helicopter, and a Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse.
As Bay’s tweet suggests, Drift (a reformed Decepticon) follows a samurai-like code. Ken Watanabe voiced the character in ‘Age of Extinction,’ although he is not yet confirmed to return in ‘The Last Knight.’
Michael Bay has declared this will be his final film as director on the ‘Transformers’ series (although he also said that of both ‘Age of Extinction’ and third installment ‘Dark of the Moon’).
Either way, Paramount has big plans to keep the franchise going, with a ‘Bumblebee’ solo movie scheduled for 2018 and a further sequel due in 2019.
There has also been talk of a prequel set on the Transformers home planet, and a ‘GI Joe’ crossover movie is possible.
‘Transformers: The Last Knight’ is set to hit UK cinemas 23 June 2017.
