Netflix has slowly become as synonymous with Christmas movies as the Hallmark channel, and the streamer has made it even easier for subscribers avoid endlessly scrolling to find the exact festive original they want.

2024 will see the streamer releasing a whole host of new festive movies over November, including its latest collaboration with Lindsay Lohan and new films starring Chad Michael Murray and Dustin Milligan. There's also classic franchises, such as The Princess Switch films or family favourites like Jingle Jangle, that viewers can revisit during the holidays for a comforting rewatch.

As the festive season stars, viewers might be looking for a very specific genre of Christmas film or TV show to get stuck into, or might just want to find something fun to get the kids into the holiday spirit. The good news is Netflix has designed a way for viewers to find what they're looking for even faster, with secret codes.

It has long been the tradition that Netflix has used secret codes, which give viewers a way to find shows —and even make their own playlists— that bring the movies and shows they're looking for into focus.

So how do the secret codes work? It's easy really, users can type in a specific code into the streamer's website. The website is the easiest to use, and playlists can be accessed by typing a specific code in at the end of the following url: https://www.netflix.com/browse/genre/

Per What's On Netflix, the secret codes are now harder to access using the search bar on a TV or phone, and users will instead need to type a category name to access the titles that are listed under the secret codes on Netflix's website.

In the UK there are a number of secret codes that will work for viewers looking for a specific type of Christmas movie they'd like to watch, whether that is a Netflix original or a title that the streamer has in its back catalogue.

For the festive season, Netflix created specific categories for viewers that include romantic Christmas films, movies for the whole family, and even TV shows that both kids and adults will enjoy. These codes have varied over the years, and the streamer has cut back on the amount of secret codes it has, but there are a few still available to choose from in 2024.

Cue the Leonardo DiCaprio pointing meme because, yes, Netflix has created a Christmas universe where every original film and TV show has some sort of connection to each other.

Often characters will sit down to watch a festive movie on Netflix that has come out before it, or characters will have a direct link to each other. For example, the lead characters of the Christmas Prince trilogy appear in The Princess Switch movies, while The Knight Before Christmas makes reference to Aldovia where The Princess Switch is set.

The trailer for upcoming Netflix film Hot Frosty even includes a reference to Lohan's 2022 movie Falling for Christmas, and the character remarks that she recognises Lohan's character as someone she "went to High School with."
