Anna Kendrick Would Like To Play Marvel’s Squirrel Girl
Actress Anna Kendrick has (very informally) thrown her hat in the ring for a role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe… albeit one we wouldn’t anticipate seeing on the big screen any time soon.
The ‘Pitch Perfect’ star tells Net-A-Porter, “My brother sent me a Squirrel Girl comic because he thinks I should [play her].
“I don’t know what Squirrel Girl does other than be half squirrel, but I could be half squirrel!”
Co-created by legendary artist Steve Ditko and Will Murray in the early 1990s, Squirrel Girl is one of the more notoriously cutesy characters to have come from the Marvel stable in the last few decades.
As the name suggests, she has squirrel-like powers - agility, claws, prehensile tail - and the ability to interact with the animals.
The question arose as Kendrick reflected on working with 'Deadpool’ star Ryan Reynolds on under-seen black comedy 'The Voices.’
The actress described Reynolds as “one of the most authentic people I’ve worked with; I can’t think of a person more deserving of a hit like [Deadpool]. He worked for so many years to get that film made because it’s a character that was inside of him.”
Whilst a 'Squirrel Girl’ movie is not known to be on Marvel’s agenda at this point, Kendrick does have one notable comic book movie under her belt: 2010’s 'Scott Pilgrim vs The World.’
Edgar Wright’s movie (based on Bryan O’Malley’s comic series) boasts a number of superhero connections: it co-starred former Superman Brandon Routh, future Captain America Chris Evans - and Brie Larson, strongly rumoured to be Marvel’s top choice for the lead in 'Captain Marvel.’
