Week 3 power rankings: Steelers get boost after back-to-back wins

.
.

Back-to-back victories have boosted the Pittsburgh Steelers' power ranking (except ESPN) each week since the preseason. What counts are wins, no matter how a team manages to do it, but the Steelers remain underwhelming on offense as they have for the last few years. If they want to hang with the big dogs as the season rolls on, something's gotta give with Arthur Smith's offense.

Here’s a look at where the Steelers stand in Week 3 power rankings as they welcome the Los Angeles Chargers for their home opener.

Our take:

Justin Fields is holding onto the starting job because Russell Wilson is injured, not because of his play. They're winning games by the skin of their teeth with an offense that simply isn't competitive enough to hang with the big dogs. The Steelers are T-29th with a meager 25% red zone scoring percentage, and Fields is responsible for just one touchdown in two games. He'll need to be more productive with his opportunities.

Though Mike Tomlin has been mum on the subject, Steelers insider Gerry Dulac reported last week that Justin Fields will start once again this week. He and the offense must help the defense, which will be tested by L.A.

Author's take:

If they continue to lead the league in turnover differential (+5) while surrendering 8 points weekly, it may not matter if they play a quarterback at all.

Our take:

It's early in the season and most teams are still finding their groove, but the lack of offensive scoring will eventually catch up with the Steelers. The defense has been the star unit of the team through two weeks, but Justin Fields and company have to get their act together.
