The United States men's basketball team will face France in the gold medal game of the 2024 Paris Olympics on Saturday.

Team USA earned a 95-91 win over Serbia in the semifinals on Thursday. France earned a 73-69 win over Germany in the semifinals on Thursday.

USA vs France prediction in 2024 Paris Olympic gold medal game

If you just looked at the final score, Team USA's 95-91 win over Serbia in the semifinals wasn't very convincing.

But what was convincing was the way the United States erased a 13-point deficit in the fourth quarter, overpowering Serbia on both ends of the floor. It'll have to bring that energy for four quarters against a red-hot France team that has home court advantage.

Jrue Holiday is the perfect candidate to contain Isaia Cordinier on the perimeter, and bigs such as Joel Embiid and Anthony Davis will finally put an end to France's dominance down low. This one will be much closer than the spread, but I'm picking Team USA to secure its fifth straight Olympic gold medal.

Prediction: United States 84, France 79

Never count out Nikola Jokic. There's a reason we viewed Jamal Murray the way we had to this point, and why Bogdan Bogdanovic had the audacity to shoot Carmelo Anthony's 3-point celebration back at him, and why Serbia pushed back on the USA's dominance for the better part of Thursday. The big fella maximizes his teammates as well as anyone.

But with as strong of a fight as Serbia put up in the semifinal, it feels like the gold medal game is bound to be anticlimactic in comparison.

Victor Wembanyama has leveraged his size and attention well, but he isn't Jokic. Serbia long held a lead because its role players played unbelievably well. It held on, even close to the end, because its star center looked every bit like the best player in the world.

Will France see a combination of both? Of the convincing play from its role players that helped knock off Canada, and a promising showing from Wembanyama?

Joel Embiid's impact will matter. As will Anthony Edwards and, perhaps, Jayson Tatum. The USA will need to challenge France at the rim as much as possible.

But it can be done. The overwhelming feeling in the air is that the real gold medal game was already played Thursday.

Prediction: United States 93, France 83
