The home run, which came on a 1-2 pitch and off of Moore's bat at 109 mph, was Moore's 34th home run of the season and 61st of his career. According to ESPN Stats & Info on X (formerly Twitter), Moore is the first player to hit a leadoff home run in a Game 2 or Game 3 of the College World Series championship series since at least 1999.
Moore, who left Game 2 Sunday with a right leg cramp, has been one of the hottest hitters in Omaha for the Vols recording 10 combined hits in six games. He also became the second-ever player to hit for the cycle at the CWS in the Vols 12-11 opening-round win vs. Florida State.
The Vols are looking to break the curse of the No. 1 overall seed — as no No. 1 overall team has won the CWS since Miami in 1999 — as well as win their first CWS title with a win Monday.
