The Ohio State football spring schedule is coming to a close.

After 14 spring practices at the Woody Hayes Athletic Center, the Buckeyes will take the field at Ohio Stadium for their annual spring game. Ohio State will open the 2024 fall season against Akron Aug. 31 at Ohio Stadium.

After ending the 2023 season with back-to-back losses to Michigan and Missouri, the Buckeyes will take the field with additions including five-star wide receiver Jeremiah Smith, Kansas State transfer quarterback Will Howard, Mississippi transfer running back Quinshon Judkins and Alabama transfer safety Caleb Downs.

Ohio State will also play without players such as wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. and defensive lineman Michael Hall Jr. who have each entered the 2024 NFL draft.

Sam Williams-Dixon scored the Buckeyes' third touchdown of the day, finding a massive hole in the middle of the offensive line and taking it 15 yards for the score. Williams-Dixon is the second freshman running back to score after James Peoples scored earlier in the third quarter.

Air Noland enters Ohio State spring game

Air Noland made his Ohio State debut in the middle of the third quarter.

Noland was the fifth scholarship Ohio State quarterback to play Saturday behind Will Howard, Lincoln Kienholz, Devin Brown and Julian Sayin.

On Saturday, 80,012 people attended the Buckeyes' scrimmage at Ohio Stadium.

The Ohio State quarterback found Brennan Schramm on a slant for a touchdown. Brown completed all three of his passes on the scoring drive for 50 yards while also adding a 10-yard drive.

Brady Quinn compares Jeremiah Smith to LeBron James

Brady Quinn did not calm expectations for Ohio State freshman wide receiver Jeremiah Smith.

"I don't want this to sound like an overstatement talking about Jeremiah Smith," Quinn said. "But I live in the south Florida area. I had the chance to go watch him play at Chaminade Madonna. And it really reminded me of another guy in my class coming out of high school: LeBron James. That's how dominant he was. That's how so many years ahead of most young men (he is) at this age. I know what comes from that statement. But I know this young man is going to tear up college football."

Ohio State football recruiting: Who is at the spring game? 

Ohio State will hold one of its biggest recruiting weekends of the spring Saturday at Ohio Stadium.

The Buckeyes will reportedly host each commitment in the 2025 class except four-star defensive lineman London Merritt, who was just in Columbus March 29-31, and four-star tight end Nate Roberts, who committed Saturday. 2026 five-star wide receiver commitment Chris Henry Jr. is also expected to attend Saturday’s scrimmage.

2025 four-star safety and recent Wisconsin decommit Cody Haddad is also expected to visit Ohio State for Saturday’s spring game along with 2026 five-star defensive lineman Jahkeem Stewart, the No. 1 player in the country, and 2025 five-star safety Jonah Williams.

2025 five-star wide receiver and LSU commit Dakorien Moore was reportedly scheduled to attend Saturday's spring game. According to 247Sports, Moore will be forced to reschedule due to a track meet and will visit Ohio State the weekend of April 27.

Chip Kelly, Carlos Locklyn make Ohio State debut 

Ohio State will have four coaches make their debut at the spring game Saturday.

What happened at the Ohio State 2023 spring game? 

In front of more than 75,000 fans, the Ohio State defense prevailed against quarterback Kyle McCord and the OSU offense in the 2023 spring game.

McCord led the offense on three three-and-outs in four possessions and did not record a first-half score. Chip Trayanum scored the Buckeyes’ only offensive touchdown in the first half.

Trayanum, wide receiver Kyion Grayes, wide receiver Carnell Tate, wide receiver Noah Rogers and two-time Heisman Trophy winner Archie Griffin scored touchdowns for the Buckeyes’ offense in the spring game. Griffin’s score was a part of a ceremony in the second half.

How long is the OSU spring game 2024? 

The first three quarters will be 12-15 minutes with play clock stoppage. The fourth quarter will last 10 minutes with a running clock. There will also be a 10-minute halftime period.

Ohio State spring game scoring 

Scoring for the 2024 Ohio State spring game will be the same as years past.

The Ohio State offense will face the OSU defense Saturday. Offensive scoring will be traditional: touchdowns, extra points and field goals.
