Miami Dolphins' Tyreek Hill isn't chasing 2,000 yards anymore. Why not?

MIAMI GARDENS — Forget Tyreek Hill 2K.

Hill, the Miami Dolphinstwo-time reigning MVP, made it clear in 2023 that he was gunning to become the first receiver in NFL history with a 2,000-yard season.

But this year?

He’s not chasing it. Why not?

“That’s very selfish of me,” Hill said Tuesday.

Hill finished with a career-high 1,799 yards but was on pace to top 2,000 for a fair chunk of the season before injuries struck. He now says that while “it was great” to come out with such a lofty goal, after having time to reflect, he has changed his approach.

“That’d be great,” Hill said of reaching 2,000 last season, “but I feel like at the same time I have to understand that there was the position that I’m in. And me being one of the leaders and just singling out an individual goal like that — because I had time to go look at, talk about it with my family, like, that’s very selfish of me.”

So Hill has different goals for 2024.

“I want us to win a playoff game,” he said. “I would love that. We’re going to start with that, then moving forward, like continuing to build on that. You know, we’re going to move up to the Super Bowl. So it’s like one step at a time.”

So team goals, it is.

“That’ll feel good,” he said. “That’ll be something that I can live with for the rest of my life.”

Of course, a best-case scenario might be postseason success coupled with that elusive 2K achievement. Hill wouldn’t have any complaints about that now, would he?

“I’m not saying it’s off the table,” he said.

“But I understand how the season goes. Teams prepare. It’s like they prepare to take me out of games, they prepare to take (Jaylen) Waddle out of games. So there could be situations that I have good games, there could be situations where I have bad games.

“So let’s not scratch off the 2K yet, all right? If it comes, it comes.”
