MLB playoff scores, live updates: Guardians vs. Tigers in pivotal Game 3; Mets, Padres go for knockouts in Game 4s

The Yankees and Royals also clash in Kansas City in ALDS Game 3

It's the final four-game day of the MLB postseason, and with two pivotal Game 3 matchups in the American League and two Game 4 elimination matchups in the National League, the stakes couldn't be higher.

In the ALDS, the Detroit Tigers host the Cleveland Guardians in the early matchup. That series is tied 1-1, with Detroit getting a 3-0 win in Game 2 behind an excellent Tarik Skubal outing. He went seven innings and allowed just three hits with zero walks and eight strikeouts, and Kerry Carpenter slugged a pinch-hit, three-run homer in the top of the ninth to provide all of the scoring. On Wednesday, Alex Cobb took the hill for Cleveland against Keider Montero for Detroit.

Later in Kansas City, the Royals host the Yankees in Game 3. K.C. took Game 2 by a score of 4-2 to take home-field advantage in the series. Maikel Garcia had four hits, and Salvador Perez homered in the victory. In Game 3, the Yankees send Clark Schmidt to the mound against Seth Lugo for the Royals.

Over in the NL, the Phillies have their backs against the wall in Game 4 against the Mets. The pitching matchup will see Ranger Suarez for Philadelphia against Jose Quintana for New York. Quintana allowed no runs in six innings in a wild-card start against the Brewers. He made three starts against the Phillies in the regular season, holding Philly hitters to a .224/.274/.259 slash line in three Mets wins.

Finally, in the nightcap, the Padres can knock out the Dodgers with a win in San Diego. The intense rivalry has seen fans throwing things at players and Manny Machado earning the ire of Dave Roberts. The Padres send Dylan Cease to the mound, and the Dodgers have yet to announce a starter.
