How Dabo Swinney reacted to DJ Uiagalelei injury that will keep ex-Clemson QB out of FSU game
CLEMSON — Clemson football faces Florida State in its first road game on Saturday, and the Seminoles will be without their starting quarterback.
FSU coach Mike Norvell confirmed Tuesday former Clemson quarterback DJ Uiagalelei will miss Saturday's game (7 p.m. ET, ESPN) against the No. 14 Tigers (3-1, 2-0 ACC) at Doak Campbell Stadium. He suffered a hand injury against SMU last weekend, and second-year quarterback Brock Glenn will make his first start of the season.
Clemson coach Dabo Swinney said the storylines around Uiagalelei mean little for the Tigers in their preparation.
"It's not Clemson vs. DJ. We're playing Florida State," Swinney said. "I don't get caught up in all the narratives and all that stuff. I'm trying to get the team ready to play whoever they put out there."
Uiagalelei transferred to Oregon State for the 2023 season and then to Florida State (1-4, 1-3) this season hoping to replace quarterback Jordan Travis, who helped FSU to an undefeated regular season and ACC championship. Uiagalelei has struggled, throwing for 1,065 yards for four touchdowns and six interceptions (tied for first in the ACC).
Uiagalelei's play has contributed to FSU's disappointing start after it was the ACC media preseason pick to win the conference and began the season ranked No. 10 in the coaches poll. Now, the Seminoles are unranked, 11th in the ACC and average the fewest points scored in the ACC with 15.2.

Uiagalelei's former Clemson teammates are disappointed he will miss Saturday's game in Tallahassee.
"I was really sick to see that," said safety R.J. Mickens, who was in the same 2020 recruiting class as Uiagalelei. "I really hate that for him that he might have broke his finger or whatever they said. So, I'm definitely praying for him and hoping for a speedy recovery."
Glenn will make his third career start for FSU after playing in last year's ACC championship and Orange Bowl. Through six career games, he is 19-for-55 for 229 yards, zero touchdowns and two interceptions.
Dabo Swinney gives Peter Woods, Antonio Williams injury updates for Clemson-FSU
Swinney said defensive lineman Peter Woods was "close" to playing against Stanford. Swinney said Tuesday and Wednesday will be "big" for the sophomore. Woods has missed two games after suffering a lower-body injury against App State in Week 2 after a Mountaineer player chop-blocked him.
Swinney said wide receiver Antonio Williams is back practicing this week after getting injured vs Stanford. The Tigers also hope to get offensive lineman Collin Sadler back. He has missed the past two games with a calf strain.
