Tracking Clemson football, Dabo Swinney's redshirt freshmen in 2024

CLEMSON — With Clemson football's first four games of the season over, redshirt decisions are coming.

Tigers who have not yet used a redshirt year can get one if they play in four games or fewer. Three of Clemson's 21 scholarship true freshmen have played in each games this season: wide receiver T.J. Moore, linebacker Sammy Brown and kicker Nolan Hauser.

All have contributed in each game with Moore and Hauser making at least one start this season.

Other Clemson freshmen have played in games too when the Tigers removed their starters in blowout victories. The experience for the young players is needed, but Swinney and his staff must shut some down moving forward if they want to get another year of eligibility.

In 2023, nine of Clemson's 26 scholarship freshmen played in more than four games. All of those players returned for the 2024 season, with six making a start this year. Of the 15 who redshirted, 13 returned in 2024.

Here's who looks set to redshirt for Clemson in 2024:

Note: Swinney said on Oct. 13 the team held Eziomume against Wake Forest on Oct. 12 despite making the travel roster. Eziomume has only appeared against Appalachian State and NC State this season and will likely redshirt.

Young is out for the season with a torn ACL he suffered during a preseason practice.

Could any other Clemson players redshirt?

Here are players who are not freshmen, but who have not yet used a redshirt year and have played in four games or fewer through the first seven. These players could still receive a redshirt if they play in less than five games this season.

Players will be removed from the list if they hit five games played.

Swinney said Brown, who attended Greenville High School, has been "week to week" after "plateauing" when progressing from his ankle injury. The team is hopeful he will progress during its open week.

Pennington suffered a season-ending knee injury vs. App State and is expected to redshirt to have two years of eligibility remaining.
