Clemson football coach Dabo Swinney updates wide receiver Tyler Brown's injury timeline
CLEMSON — Clemson football coach Dabo Swinney said the team is "hopeful" wide receiver Tyler Brown will progress from his left ankle injury during its open week.
Swinney said Brown had a tightrope surgery to stabilize the ankle after he couldn't "get over the hump." Swinney said his return will depend on how his body responds, recalling former Clemson defensive tackle Tyler Davis had the same surgery but returned in two weeks.
"(Brown) was doing good, and he, kind of, plateaued, and we couldn't get him over the hump, so they made that decision," Swinney said.
Brown, who attended Greenville High School, missed his second straight game on Saturday. He was seen pregame riding a scooter that held up his left leg with a boot on his foot. Entering Saturday, Swinney labeled Brown, who has five catches for 30 yards across four games this season, "week to week."
Brown injured the ankle against Appalachian State in Week 2. He returned three weeks later against Stanford to play 22 snaps then 18 vs. Florida State before the team reevaluated him. Brown led Clemson in receptions and receiving yards last year and started for the Tigers in their first two games in 2024.
In Brown's absence, wide receivers T.J. Moore and Troy Stellato have stepped up alongside Antonio Williams to uplift Clemson's offense.
