Who's ready for an all-Florida showdown to kick off the 2024 NFL season? The Miami Dolphins host the Jacksonville Jaguars today hoping for a bright start to the year.
The Dolphins are coming off an 11-6 season and a second straight playoff appearance under coach Mike McDaniel. Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa led the NFL with 4,624 passing yards, receiver Tyreek Hill had a league-high 1,799 receiving yards, and running back Raheem Mostert tied for the lead with 21 touchdowns. But for the second year in a row, Miami was bounced from the postseason in the first round, and over the offseason they had to rebuild their offensive line and defense. The Dolphins could be without cornerback Jalen Ramsey, who started his lauded career with the Jags.
The Jaguars are looking to return to the playoffs after stumbling down the stretch and finishing 9-8 last season. Coach Doug Pederson is looking for quarterback Trevor Lawrence to take another step into stardom after he had his second straight 4,000-yard season but threw 14 interceptions against 21 touchdowns. He gets a new swath of wide receivers in Gabe Davis and Brian Thomas Jr., a first-round draft pick from LSU who could vie for Rookie of the Year honors.
