Bills place rookie who made game-turning tackle in comeback win on injured reserve

The Buffalo Bills placed rookie defensive tackle DeWayne Carter on injured reserve with a wrist injury required surgery.

Carter was limited participant in practice Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Bills head coach Sean McDermott said Carter was ruled out for the game at the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday and shortly after he was put on injured reserve.

Carter, who Buffalo selected in the third round, No. 95 overall, will miss a minimum of four games. He will be eligible to return in Week 13 against the San Francisco 49ers.

Carter played in the first seven games, with nine tackles, three tackles for loss, two quarterback hits and one pass defensed.

He had a momentum-shifting stop against the Tennessee Titans last week, wrestling down running back Tony Pollard in the backfield on fourth-and-2 for a 3-yard loss on the first possession of the second half to spur the Bills' comeback win. Carter received X-rays after the game. Buffalo's rookie class made a huge impact in the victory, as fellow draftees Keon Coleman and Ray Davis scored touchdowns.

Carter's playing time has ramped up over the last few weeks. He started twice in Ed Oliver's absence and has played 183 defensive snaps, 39%, which is 11th most on the team.

Buffalo's defense has been hampered by injures. Buffalo limped to the finish line against the Houston Texans with four defensive lineman - Zion Logue, Branson Deen, Javon Solomon and Carter - in the rotation in Week 5.

On the defensive line alone, Oliver, Dawuane Smoot and Solomon have each missed two games and Austin Johnson missed one game. That quartet has returned to health and played against the Titans.

Edge rusher Von Miller is serving the final game of a four-game suspension.
