2019 baby name predictions: From 70s monikers to 'Killing Eve'
If you’re expecting a little one next year or you’re just weirdly fascinated with baby names (just us?), 2019’s hottest trends in mini monikers have been revealed.
The clever bods at BabyCentre have done some name crunching and revealed what they predict people will be calling their newborns next year.
From retro names from eras gone by, to the characters of ‘Killing Eve’ (‘Welcome to the world baby Villanelle’), here’s what we’ll all be naming our babies next year….
Cartoon inspo
Last year saw popular TV shows Peaky Blinders and Stranger Things have an influence on baby names, but parents-to-be could be looking for some softer namespo in 2019.
Classic boys’ name Peter, made popular by this year’s big screen adaptation of the classic children’s tale ‘Peter Rabbit’, is making a comeback with the moniker clocking up more registrations than last year. While Jemima (Puddleduck) and Beatrix (Potter) are both predicted to climb up the naming charts next year.
The parenting site also predicts that parents will opt to call their kids after the characters in Paw Patrol (Ryder, Chase, Marshall and Rocky). While kids-fave Bing bunny has also appeared on baby birth certificates for the first time.
And with ‘Frozen 2’ on the horizon next November Anna, Elsa, Kristoff and even Olaf are also expected to see a rise.
Baby Box sets
We already know that parents-to-be love naming their little ones after the characters from ‘Game of Thrones’ and with the conclusion of the epic series in 2019 we can expect to see even more Aryas, Tyrions, Sansas and Daenerys on pre-school registers.
Baby naming experts are also predicting we could see the revival of the more conventional Julia and David, after we were all glued to ‘Bodyguard’.
And ‘Killing Eve’ hasn’t just inspired us all with its fashion brilliance, it could also make its mark on the baby naming charts too with the hit show’s top characters Eve, Villanelle and Oksana set to see a spike in popularity. Because it’s not at all weird to name a cute baby after a serial killer.
Back to the 70s
Retro cool baby names from eras gone by have seen a rise in recent years, but we weren’t sure 70s classics like Patricia, Susan, Barry, Cliff and Christine would be welcomed back into the baby naming fold.
Baby Brian does have a certain ring to it though no?
Long-haul names
The parenting website also predicts a spike in babies named after far flung destinations.
The increasingly popular India is expected to continue to rise, to be joined by boys named Dallas, Israel and Cairo.
