Tess Daly reveals secret to Strictly stamina with surprising bra confession
Tess Daly has been effortlessly hosting Strictly Come Dancing for two decades, and she once revealed how she keeps up the energy for the extremely fast-paced live shows. In a 2012 interview with Elle, the 55-year-old revealed she has a 'special box' filled with sweets and Lucozade and other treats to power her through the day.
However, there’s one special ‘treat’ that she claimed kept her going throughout the show – a Polo mint secreted in her bra. Despite her complete professionalism and charm during the show however, even Tess has had her fair share of awkward moments, and one involved the infamous Polo.
In 2016, she opened up about an embarrassing moment during the 2015 series, where she lost the stone to her engagement ring from Vernon Kay. The pair got engaged in 2002, which he said was “among the happiest times of his life.”

“Last series, I was standing talking at the beginning of the show to Claudia, and I felt something drop into my hand,” she told The Express, referencing the 2015 series, which was won by The Wanted’s Jay McGuiness and his professional dance partner Aliona Vilani. “I thought it might have been a Polo [mint] I keep in the dress, but it was actually the stone from my engagement ring.
"As I walked off set, about to cast it into the rubbish, I saw it was the diamond from the ring, the most valuable piece of jewellery I own. If it had fallen into all those sequins, I would never have found it! But it’s live television, and the show must go on,” the star said.
While taking part in I'm A Celeb in 2020, which was held in at Gwrych Castle in Abergele, Wales, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Vernon reminisced about his proposal to Tess, which took place on Christmas Day at Tess' family home in Stockport.
"On Christmas Day it was, it was the last present under the tree,” he gushed. "While she was so consumed by the ring, I was on one knee. She was like that [pulls shocked face]. It was awesome."
The couple tied the knot a year later at St Mary's church in Vernon's hometown Horwich, Bolton. Tess looked stunning in a Marina Adanou strapless A-line dress, while Vernon looked dapper in an Alexandre Savile Row white suit, jazzed up with a pink shirt and lively tie.
