Selma Blair proudly debuts bald head after intense treatment for MS
Actor Selma Blair, 47, has taken to Instagram to share an emotional update on her health battle with multiple sclerosis - and proudly show off her newly shaved head.
The Cruel Intentions star revealed to her 1.7 million followers in a post on Thursday that she has just completed an intense - and final - round of treatment for the disease.
New hair, who dis?
"Today is a banner day. I am being discharged from the care of an incredible team of nurses and techs and a visionary Dr. who believes in my healing as much as I do,” the mum-of-one wrote.
She shared a photo of herself wearing a striped top and what looks to be a medical dressing on her right arm while leaning against her Alinker walk assist bike in hospital.
Gone is her chic blonde bob, with the Grammy nominee beaming while sporting a bald head.
While it’s not clear the exact treatment Selma has undergone, common treatments for MS include chemotherapy, immunosuppressive drugs and steroids.
Selma went on to reveal that her treatment has left her immunocompromised - which means her ability to fight off illnesses is impaired - and will be for next three months at least.
“So no kisses please,” she added, before saying that she is “excited to share this journey when I am ready.”
A mother’s love
For now, the doting mum is dedicated to her recovery, which she said is “the best gift” she could give her son, Arthur, who celebrated his eight birthday the very same day.
Selma shares Arthur with ex-partner, US fashion designer Jason Bleick, 49, and earlier shared a snap of her boy snipping off her locks.
“And now my kid can cut his mom’s hair and make jokes and assure me just by being him that I am good enough,” she wrote.
Selma’s health journey
The American star has been open about her struggles with MS, which she was diagnosed with in late 2018 - after battling symptoms since the birth of her son in 2011.
Multiple sclerosis is a chronic condition that can affect the brain and spinal cord, leading to symptoms including vision loss, pain, fatigue, muscle spasms and impaired coordination.
Symptoms vary from person to person, and there is currently no known cure.
Selma made her first big post-diagnosis appearance at the 2019 VanIty Fair Oscar’s party in January after temporarily losing the ability to speak.
The star graced the red carpet wearing a stunning Ralph & Russo dress with the help of a walking stick.
She previously revealed on social media that she "cannot imagine feeling okay again.”
"Here's a truth. I feel sick as all hell. I am vomiting and all the things which are not polite to speak of. My son ran away. From me. I have to get him to school. The medical treatments take their toll. I am going to get through this," she added.
