This is not a drill: prosecco is becoming a lot cheaper.

We consider ourselves a bit of a pro when it comes to tracking down the best priced prosecco. However, even after all these years, you’ll still probably be shelling out around £6.99 per bottle of the bubbly stuff.

However, in recent months we’ve been ecstatic at the fab deals budget supermarkets Lidl and Aldi have had to offer, which slashed prices down to as little as £3.33 per bottle.

It’s not just the low prices that we should be thanking the supermarket chains for, as their highly competitive rates have now had a knock-on effect, pressuring other stores to lower their prosecco prices. And it has worked.

In a surprise revelation, that is bound to make your Monday the price of prosecco has dropped by 23p so far this year. Okay, okay, so we know it’s not much, but every little helps, right?

Toby Magill, a market analyst IRI explained to the Independent, “Demand for prosecco is still growing and the price is being eroded.”

In fact, Britain has drunk an extra 12.8 million litres of sparkling wine this year, with more and more people opting for the cheapest option. “Alternative sparkling wines like Asda’s Progrigio are coming in and because of the success of prosecco, it’s very difficult to sell at a higher price.”

So, who knows, it could drop even further, but for now, £6.76 a bottle isn’t bad at all.
