Discount supermarket Aldi has confirmed it will be selling a massive three-litre bottle of Prosecco this Christmas, holding the equivalent of six regular-sized bottles of fizz.

The Prosecco Jeroboam DOCG will be available in stores and online from 14 November and set shoppers back just £40. To put that into context, similar-sized bottles of Prosecco will cost around £99 through DrinkSupermarket.com or if you fancy shopping at Selfridges.

According to Aldi the “delicate yet serious” booze is a “beautifully pale straw colour” with a “soft sherbet taste”.

If three litres is a bit much, then there is also a rather more modest Prosecco Magnum (which holds 1.5 litres) for £12.

Prosecco is swiftly becoming the drink of choice for Brits. According to the Consortium for the Protection of Prosecco (yes, that’s a real thing) as a nation we drank a third of all the Prosecco produced last year, more than any other country.

And if you fancy buying booze, you could do a lot worse than Aldi, which has won a host of awards for its alcohol range, including two gold and eleven silver medals at the Decanter World Wine awards and the International Wine and Spirits Challenge.
