Princess Beatrice's '£100,000 engagement ring' was designed by fiancé
Princess Beatrice, 31, has today announced her engagement to fiancé Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi.
The Queen’s granddaughter, who’s ninth-in-line to the throne, celebrated her news with a series of photographs - one which included a close-up of her engagement ring.
Beatrice’s brilliant-cut, shoulder-set diamond ring is a fairly modern design - a world apart from the pink, vintage-inspired sapphire ring that Jack Brooksbank gave then-fiancée Princess Eugenie back in 2017.
Beatrice’s ring is a personal affair: fiancé Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, 36, designed the piece in collaboration with the British jewellery designer Shaun Leane, according to an Instagram post on the Duke of York’s official account.
The platinum and diamond engagement ring is a fusion of Victorian and Art Deco designs, according to a statement from Shaun Leane. It is accompanied by two additional matching bands in the jeweller’s distinctive hand.
The ring ‘was crafted by hand in the Shaun Leane Mayfair atelier and is set with excellent cut diamonds of the highest colour and clarity, of which all are GIA certified and ethically sourced,” according to the statement.
“The bespoke experience began with a detailed and personal consultation with the groom. Consequently, the design is filled with personal and sentimental signifiers for the couple and unique to them, an approach that is synonymous with Shaun Leane’s bespoke service,” it adds.
Designer Shaun Leane says of the design ‘I am so honoured Edoardo chose to work with me to design the engagement ring for Princess Beatrice and to have been involved in this special moment in their lives.
“The bespoke experience was a beautiful journey; from imagining the design with Edoardo to the crafting of the finished rings. Being able to incorporate both Edoardo and Princess Beatrice’s characters into the design has resulted in a unique ring that represents their love and lives entwining,” he adds.
The jeweller has not revealed the cost of the price. However, London jeweller Susannah Lovis has estimated it reaches the six figure region.
“Princess Beatrice’s is a beautiful engagement ring with a round brilliant cut diamond flanked by four baguette-cut diamonds,” she says.
“It is breath-taking particularly because all you can see is diamonds and the platinum band is hidden. It appears to be around 3.5 carats and would probably have cost in the region of £100,000.”
Hatton Garden jeweller makes a similar cost estimate at between £80,000 and £100,000.
“Princess Beatrice engagement ring is a beautiful Art-Deco inspired piece, a representative told Yahoo UK.
“The style is classic as [Edoardo] obviously tried to stay traditional but with a modern twist. [Edoardo’s] choice of jeweller reflects this,” they added. “We love the ring and estimate its value at between £80,000 and £100,000,”
According to jeweller Jason D'Heureux, creative director of bespoke jewellers Taylor & Hart, the ring bears a striking similarity to the Queen’s engagement ring.
'Like her grandmother, her aunt and cousin-in-law, Princess Beatrice has gone with an all-diamond engagement ring,” he told Femail. “The centre diamond is also round and and likely possesses very high colour and clarity.”
Princess Beatrice’s cousin Prince Harry also designed the engagement ring with which he proposed to Meghan Markle in 2018.

While Beatrice’s ring is a bespoke piece, prices for a Shaun Leane engagement ring start at £5,200 on the jeweller’s website.
Shaun Leane has proved popular among the royals in recent years.
The Duchess of Sussex has previously worn earrings by Shaun Leane when she went to watch Hamilton in London in August last year.
Similarly, the Duchess of Cambridge wore a Asprey woodland charm necklace designed in collaboration with Shaune Lean in 2014.
The jeweller also has a strong celebrity following.
Taylor Swift wore Shaun Leane earrings in her music video for ‘Look What You Made Me Do’, while Björk, Daphne Guinness, Sam Taylor-Johnson, Elton John, Emma Watson are also among previous clients.
