Prince William admits Prince Harry hasn't asked him to be best man

The date is booked, the venue is in the process of being chosen (with a couple of hiccups), but there’s one major detail of the royal wedding that is still in question. Who will be Harry’s best man?

According to Prince William, he hasn’t yet been asked.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are due to wed on May 19th at St George’s Chapel in Windsor.

But with less than five months to go until the big day, William has revealed that he still doesn’t know if he’ll be awarded the role.

The Duke of Cambridge was filming a video in London with the Campaign Against Living Miserably (Calm), which helps those at risk of suicide and encourages men to speak about their mental health.

“He hasn’t asked me yet – it could be a sensitive issue!” William said when asked by DJ Roman Kemp about his brother’s big day and the importance of a best man.

William was speaking during filming of a video for mental health charity, Campaign Against Living Miserably (Calm), which encourages men to speak about their mental health.

But there’s another reason Prince William may not serve as best man at his brother’s forthcoming nuptials.

According to British and Royalty expert Marlene Koenig there is no such thing as a ‘best man’ at a royal wedding.

“The best man or best men are officially called supporters,” she told Town & Country.

“William will probably be Harry’s supporter.”

However, as they have already proven Harry and Meghan don’t always play by the royal rules, so it’s likely Harry could well break with tradition and appoint his brother his official best man.

Indeed for his own wedding to the Duchess of Cambridge in 2011, William opted to overlook the official ruling and gave his brother the ‘best man’ title.

As far as other royal weddings went, William and Harry’s father Prince Charles opted to ask his own brothers Princes Andrew and Edward to be his ‘supporters’ when he married Princess Diana in 1981.

While Edward also asked his two older siblings to be ‘supporters’ on his own wedding day.

Meanwhile, Meghan Markle seems a little more certain when it comes to giving her friends and family official roles for her nuptials.

A source revealed to US Weekly that the bride-to-be has once again decided to shun convention and has already chosen a maid of honour, as opposed to a chief bridesmaid, which is the more British concept.
