It’s official: Meghan Markle has deleted all of her social media accounts.

In an unsurprising move, the Suits actress deactivated her Instagram, Twitter and Facebook pages shortly after her first royal engagement of 2018.

Before meeting future husband Prince Harry, the 36-year-old had an impressive fanbase with 1.9 million followers on Instagram and 350,000 Twitter devotees.

But just months into dating the royal, Meghan hinted that things were getting serious as she decided to close down her personal blog, ‘The Tig‘.

In a thank you note, the actress penned: “After close to three beautiful years on this adventure with you, it’s time to say goodbye to The Tig. You’ve made my days brighter and filled this experience with so much joy.”

She continued, “Keep finding those Tig moments of discovery, keep laughing and taking risks, and keep being the change you wish to see in the world. Above all, don’t ever forget your worth – as I’ve told you time and time again: you, my sweet friend, you are enough. Thank you for everything.”

In response to the social media cull, a royal spokesperson announced: “Ms Markle is grateful to everyone who has followed her social media accounts over the years, however as she has not used these accounts for some time she has taken the decision to close them.”

It is widely believed that members of the Royal Family cannot have their own personal social media accounts. Instead, Instagram and Twitter pages such as Kensington Palace have a communications team who announce upcoming engagements and family announcements on behalf of the royals.

And it is also key to note the fact that Princes Harry and William regularly speak out about the dangerous connotations between excessive social media use and our mental health.

During a royal visit to Copenhagen in October 2017, Harry spoke candidly about the negative impact digital platforms such as Instagram can have on our lives.

According to People, the young royal said: “People are spending far too much time online and it’s like a mental running machine that they can’t get off. You wouldn’t put your body through such a workout.”

He concluded, “We all need to talk to each other more.”

But royal fans need not worry, as you can keep up to date with the couple via the Kensington Palace social media accounts.
