Lady Gaga's $30 million Oscars necklace was last seen on Audrey Hepburn
Lady Gaga brought $30 million worth of bling to the Oscars.
Other than her sizzling chemistry with Bradley Cooper during their ‘Star is Born’ performance and the fact that she actually won an Oscar for best original song, the other Gaga talking point was the enormous diamond necklace she donned to accessorise her black, Alexander McQueen, satin frock.
With it’s Audrey Hepburn-esque silhouette and matching elbow-length gloves it was only right that the outfit was complimented by a statement necklace last worn by Hepburn herself.
Said to be worth a whopping $30 million (approx £23 million), according to a press release the 128-carat Tiffany canary-yellow diamond was originally found in South Africa in 1877 and brought to Paris where it was cut into a cushion shape.
And to put it mildly the stunning sparkler doesn’t get to grace many celebrity necks.
First worn by Mrs. Sheldon Whitehouse, at the 1957 Tiffany Ball, the diamond went on to be most-famously donned by Audrey Hepburn, for promotional photographs for Breakfast at Tiffany’s in 1961.
Since then, the rock has been stored on the main floor of the Tiffany’s Fifth Avenue flagship store in New York City.
According to a press release sent to E! News, “this marks the first time in history that the priceless 141-year-old Tiffany Diamond has graced an awards show red carpet.” So Lady Gaga is certainly the chosen one.
While Gaga no doubt will cite iconic Hollywood actress, Hepburn as her muse for her red carpet inspo, Twitter couldn’t help but point out that the Tiffany necklace was remarkably similar to one donned by Kate Hudson in ‘How to lose a guy in 10 days’.
