Odds have been cut of a Brad/Jen reunion following Jennifer Aniston's split from Justin Theroux

The odds of a Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston reunion have been slashed following the announcement that the actress has split from husband, Justin Theroux.

The couple called time on their two-and-a-half year marriage at the end of last year, confirming the news via a touching statement from Jen’s publicist, Stephen Huvane, on Thursday.

Insisting the split “was mutual and lovingly made at the end of last year”, they declared they are making a statement on the matter “in an effort to reduce any further speculation.”

The statement, which was released to Associated Press, continued: “Normally we would do this privately, but given that the gossip industry cannot resist an opportunity to speculate and invent, we wanted to convey the truth directly.”

“Whatever else is printed about us that is not directly from us, is someone else’s fictional narrative. Above all, we are determined to maintain the deep respect and love that we have for one another.”

The duo, who have been together for seven years in total, describe themselves as “two best friends who have decided to part ways as a couple, but look forward to continuing our cherished friendship.”

But while some fans have been left reeling by the shock announcement others have already taken to social media to speculate about a potential reunion with Jennifer’s ex husband Brad Pitt.

The former ‘Friends’ star, was married to Brad from 2000 to 2005, and fans were heartbroken when the couple announced their split only for Brad Pitt to couple up with his ‘Mr & Mrs Smith’ co-star Angelina Jolie.

The couple dubbed ‘Brangelina’ went on to marry in 2014 and after six children, also split in September 2016.

So with the former flames both now single, the Twittersphere can’t help to wonder if there could be hope of a romantic reunion.

“ALL I’M SAYING is that jennifer aniston and brad pitt are now both single at the same time,” one user wrote.

“Somewhere, Jennifer Aniston is crafting her “Hey, let’s grab coffee and catch up” text to Brad Pitt,” another added.

Other fans used funny memes to reveal their thoughts on the situation.

But others weren’t so sure a reunion would ever be on the cards.

“In case you all forgot: Brad Pitt fell in love with another woman and begun a relationship with her while he was still married to Jennifer Aniston. He left her to be with someone else. Why would anyone want her to get back together with him?” one Twitter user commented.

Whether you’re team Brenifer reunion or team Jen’s single and ready to mingle, bookmakers William Hill have slashed the odds of a Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston reunion from 100/1 at 10am to 16/1.

“Obviously Brad Pitt & Jennifer Aniston are Hollywood royalty, so speculation is certain to be rife,” said William Hill spokesman Rupert Adams.

“We are confident that nobody knows anything, it is just a case of wishful thinking from their fans.”

It’s not the first time social media has been hopeful the former flames could pull a Ross and Rachel style recoupling. Brad and Angelina’s breakup was also met with the same speculation.

Only time will tell if Brad and Jen will find a way back, but in the mean time let’s give them both a break. It’s been a whopping 13 years since the couple split, and the ink has barely dried on Jennifer and Justin’s split announcement.

We’ve got to admit though, a reunion would make the ultimate Hollywood movie plot.
