Melania Trump defends White House Christmas 'blood trees' - says they look beautiful IRL
Melania Trump has addressed criticism over the festive ‘blood trees’ she installed in the White House.
The 48-year-old First Lady unveiled her blood red Christmas trees earlier this week, but was met with ridicule including comparisons to the red gowns worn in American series ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’.
Now she has responded to the criticism during a speech yesterday at Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia in the US.
Asked about the trees, the wife of 72-year-old Donald Trump, President of the USA, told the audience it was a question of personal preference.
“It’s the 21st century and everybody has different tastes, I think they look fantastic.”
She also invited the crowd to come and view the trees for themselves.
“I hope everybody will come over and visit it. In real life, they look even more beautiful. You’re all very welcome to visit the White House.”
However, given that White House tours need to be requested a minimum of 21 days in advance, it’s possible Melania was being a little too optimistic.
Yesterday evening, Melania was already back in Washington DC. with Donald for the National Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony held by the National Park Service near the White House.
She wore a £2000 white MaxMara coat over a cosy roll neck in the same shade, paired with what looked like beige Gianvito Rossi boots.
