Meghan's royal wedding hair and beauty was refreshingly natural and let her freckles shine through
She nailed the simple yet elegant, Givenchy wedding dress, and Meghan Markle (or the now Duchess of Sussex) also got it spot on with her beauty look for her big day.
When it comes to your hair and makeup there’s one beauty rule many brides try to stick to. It’s about striking a balance between looking subtly different yet dramatic, looking like you, but the best version of you.
And it’s something Meghan pulled of to perfection.
Though it had been widely speculated that Meghan would follow in the Duchess of Cambridge’s footsteps and do her own wedding day makeup, a press release on the Royal Family’s website revealed that she had in fact enlisted the help of makeup artist and friend Daniel Martin.
Opting for a slightly more glamorous version of her signature look, Meghan accentuated her cheeks with a warm blush, which still allowed her freckles to shine through.
Side-stepping the usual natural bridal eye makeup, the newlywed instead chose a subtly smoky shadow, which added a glamorous twist to her typical day look.
Soft pink lips and dark lashes completed her bridal makeup.
Commenting on her overall look, Stuart Miles, founder of MilesYounger.com and the UK’s leading ageing expert said: “Meghan was class on another level. Her makeup was soft and natural and let her beautiful complexion do the talking. The paired back look allowed her natural beauty to shine through with a soft nude lip colour and those beautiful freckles.
“She did however include her signature smokey eyes which have become something of a trademark for Meghan!”
Meghan’s nails were painted with a pale, nude-pink polish, while her hair for the day was worn in a low chignon created by Serge Normant.
Instead of being sleekly perfect, loose strands helped to frame the bride’s face, giving the style a relaxed, effortless effect.
Her choice of bridal hairstyle had been the subject of much speculation, with the public wondering if Meghan would wear her hair up in her typical messy bun, or go for a more tousled, relaxed look.
“Meghan has gone for a sleek, simply beautiful hair style,” comments Mathew Soobroy, Principal Stylist at Charles Worthington.
“This is a royal classic that is incredibly elegant. The Alice band tiara simplifies it even further. This is the perfect style to shows off the neckline of the dress beautifully! She looks amazing; very regal and very bridal. Simple, structured and elegant is the order of the day.”
Fancy recreating Meghan’s simple bridal hair? Here’s Mathew Soobroy’s step-by-step guide to getting the look at home:-
Prep the hair with L’Oreal Tec Ni Pli volume spray and blow dry the hair to fall smooth
Create a centre parting and section the front hairline out, backcombing at the crown to create volume
Gather the rest into a low sleek ponytail and use Kerastase Therapiste serum to smooth
Section the ponytail into 6 parts to create barrel curls and secure with pins
Pull back the loose hair at the front and then pin gently around the bun so you get a super soft finish, framing the eyes and cheeks
Spray with L’Oreal couture carousel hair spray to give the firmness and create hold
