Plus-size singer Lizzo wants people to stop calling her 'brave' for posing nude
American singer-songwriter Lizzo has called time on people calling plus-size celebrities “brave” and “confident” for showing off their bodies.
The 31-year-old has become a key figure within the body positivity movement, thanks to her nude and scantily-clad Instagram posts, and is regularly celebrated for her confidence on social media.
But the musician, who stars alongside Jennifer Lopez as a sex worker in new film ‘Hustlers’, believes there is a “double standard” at play when people talk about plus-sized women in the public eye.

“When people look at my body and be like, 'Oh my God, she's so brave,' it's like, 'No, I'm not, I'm just fine. I'm just me. I'm just sexy,” Lizzo said in an interview with Glamour magazine.
She added: “If you saw Anne Hathaway in a bikini on a billboard, you wouldn't call her brave.
“I just think there's a double standard when it comes to women."

Lizzo, who starred in a campaign for Absolut Vodka US over the summer after the brand scouted her from Instagram, also said she disliked that people were “shocked” that she could “see [herself] as beautiful”.

Speaking of the advert, she said: "The creative had the big girls in it. It was juicy, like me, and fun, like me.”
Lizzo also spoke of how the internet has helped her to have a broader concept of beauty:
“So if you want to see somebody who's beautiful who looks like you, go on the internet and just type something in. Type in blue hair. Type in thick thighs. Type in back fat. You'll find yourself reflected.”

Earlier this month, plus-size model Tess Holliday – yet another vocal figure within the body positivity movement – made a statement at Chromat’s New York Fashion Week show.
The 34 year old walked the catwalk in a white dress emblazoned with the phrase “sample size”.
