Lena Dunham posts nude photo on Instagram encouraging fans to 'love themselves'
Lena Dunham has encouraged fans to “love themselves” with a nude photograph on Instagram.
The former ‘Girls’ actress took to the digital platform to post a naked image of herself asking followers to comment a reason why they love themselves.
For every response, the 33-year-old has pledged to donate a dollar to Friendly House LA - an organisation designed to help women recovering from substance and alcohol addiction.
Alongside the image, she wrote: “Any negativity that comes your way is just an excuse to love yourself even more, right? Comment below with a reason you love yourself.”
“I’m a sober accountable adult who still loves to get naked,” she continued. “For every comment in the next week, I’ll be donating a dollar to @FriendlyHouseLA, a residential program for women recovering from substance and alcohol addiction. So guys, be liberal with your self-praise…”
The post soon amassed over 26,000 comments with fellow celebrities sharing reasons why they love themselves.
Actress Rumer Willis wrote, “I love myself for my resolute loyalty. My tender heart and my compassion and empathy for others... oh and the tiny freckle on my toe.”
US model Tess Holliday also joined in, adding: “I love myself because it’s the greatest love I’ve ever known. I love my soft body, tender heart, resilience & courage to keep going.”
“You’re a genius!,” actor Orlando Bloom also commented. “I’m a recovering- impulsive risk taker - I love my sincere and sometimes too sensitive heart.”
Soon, fans also began to join in with one writing: “I love myself because I don’t need anyone else to do it for me.”
“I love myself because I grew two beautiful boys inside my body, and I think it’s pretty damn amazing that my body was able to do that!” another added.

Last year, Dunham revealed during an interview with actor Dax Shepard on his podcast Armchair Expert, that she was six months sober after three years of misusing anti-anxiety medication known as Klonopin.
“All my senses weren’t intact and maybe I wasn’t being as sensitive or self-aware as I could have been,” she explained. “I mean, there were plenty of times I did things people didn’t like where I was stone-cold, anxiety-ridden sober, but I think my judgment was generally impaired by my obsessive desire to escape my own pain.”
Though this isn’t the first time the actress has used her social media platform to raise awareness.
Dunham regularly shares refreshingly candid images from her battle with endometriosis, a mental and physical condition where tissue similar to the lining of the womb starts to grow in other places, such as on the ovaries and/or fallopian tubes.
While she continues to spread body positivity on her grid with lingerie-clad images designed to help inspire others embrace their body regardless of size.
