'It's too late to protect the Markles' says royal photographer

Since Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s romance became public last year, her half-siblings Samantha and Thomas Jr have given countless comments and interviews about the now Duchess of Sussex.

But the biggest shock came when her father Thomas Markle Sr was caught staging paparazzi photos for money and then pulled out of walking his daughter down the aisle, due to heart problems.

Since then, Meghan has reportedly had no contact with her father.

Speaking on episode 8 of Yahoo UK’s show ‘The Royal Box’, The Sun’s Royal Photographer, Arthur Edwards, believes the palace have left it “too late” to protect the Markles.

He said: “The only criticism I have of Harry and his office, is that they should have sent people over there to get the father on side and to get him over to England… and help him through that.”

Mr Edwards spoke about the daunting task Thomas would have faced, had he attended his daughter’s wedding in May.

He said: “It’s easy to condemn someone for not wanting to come and give his daughter away, but if you think about it, millions and millions of people are going to be watching that, everything you do is going to be examined.”

Kensington Palace released a statement from Meghan two days before her wedding on May 19, which confirmed the news that he would not be present on her big day.

Mr Edwards said: “I heard she was in tears when she heard her father wasn’t coming to give her away, but she hid it well, she looked magnificent on her wedding day.”

He added: “I suspect at some stage she will want to go and see him and make it all right again because family is family and although you don’t pick them, they’re still your family.”
