Kim Kardashian is well practised in making a fashion statement and this year's Met Gala outfit was no exception.
The reality TV star, 40, arrived on the red carpet decked head to toe in black regalia including a clinging balaclava that fully covered her face.
As well as the face covering, the full-body outfit included a figure-hugging black T-shirt dress with balloon sleeves, skin-tight trousers and kitten-heeled boots.
Kardashian West’s ensemble was designed by Balenciaga's creative director Demna Gvasalia in collaboration with West, according to Vogue.

Despite it's simplicity, the all-black look had several intricate design features, including the jersey boots.
The fashion and beauty entrepreneur also sported long gloves and a full-face mask which kept her make-up hidden.

Her hair was pulled from the back of the balaclava in a sleek ponytail with long extensions which hung below her waist.
Of course social media had thoughts about the outfit, with some comparing the look to a Dementor from Harry Potter, while others claimed she looked like the Grim Reaper or a wraith from Lord of the Rings.

Meanwhile others were just confused about the outfit, which seems such a departure from her previous Met Gala looks.

In 2013 she wore a now-famous floral print Givenchy maternity dress while in 2019 she stunned in a raindrop gown from Thierry Mugler.

Other Twitter users wondered if the look had been inspired by the aesthetic estranged husband Kanye West had used for his latest album Donda - an all black square.
Kardashian had already given a hint at her prospective Met Gala outfit, having arrived in New York over the weekend in an all black Balenciaga bodysuit.
The head-to-toe black leather look included a black belted trench, stiletto boots, gloves and a full face mask covering everything but the star's long dark ponytail dangling from a hole in the back.
The mystery surrounding Kardashian's Met Gala outfit deepened when she arrived accompanied by a man in a similarly masked ensemble, with some fans wondering if her estranged husband had secretly attended the event with the star.
Kardashian's Met Gala look was a far cry from her sister Kendall Jenner's, who opted for the ultimate naked dress instead.
According to Vogue, Jenner's beautiful custom Givenchy offered a nod to one of Audrey Hepburn's most iconic roles, Eliza Doolittle in My Fair Lady.
Despite the sisters going for completely opposing looks, no doubt Kim Kardashian will court her fair share of headlines. Maybe that was the plan all along.
