Heidi Range: 'I would hate if my daughter shared my low body esteem'
Former Sugababe Heidi Range would hate her daughter to feel how she’s felt about her body.
She reveals this in conversation with Kate Thornton, chatting on the brand new podcast ‘White Wine Question Time’, produced by Kate Thornton in association with Yahoo.
Heidi, 35, says: “I’ve never been body confident and I’ve been so many different sizes. Even when I’ve been tiny and looked amazing, I remember feeling self conscious. I’ve just never been comfortable. I’ve never been one of those girls who feels good walking around in a bikini.
“I mean my poor husband came into my wardrobe the other day. I didn’t know he was going to walk in and I’m bent over moisturising my legs under one of those cellulite lights – spotlights – and he opened the door and I just went ape, I was like ‘Get out, don’t look’, and he was like ‘You’re my wife, of course I’m going to look at you, you’re beautiful’, and I was mortified.
“We’ve been together for seven years. I’ve never been comfortable.”

However, Heidi says she would never want her daughter to experience the same discomfort in her own skin.
“I don’t want my daughter to ever think about what her body looks like because it’s not important.”
A woman’s body image is inextricably linked to her self confidence, according to research. One survey, conducted by Edelman Intelligence for the 2017 Dove Global Girls Beauty and Confidence Report, revealed more than half of girls with low body esteem feel they struggle to be assertive in their daily life.
Worrying, only 39% of the girls surveyed in the UK, aged between 10 to 17, were said to have high body esteem. What’s more, only 20% of adult women in the UK say they are confident in their bodies.
