First hint of a baby bump for Meghan Markle in Australia
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex arrived at the Sydney Opera House on Tuesday afternoon.
After announcing the happy news they’re expecting their first child together, the royal couple were welcomed by plenty of fans at the Sydney landmark.
Prince Harry and Meghan held hands as they came down the stairs of the Opera House, looking as loved up as ever.
Of course, Meghan was glowing following the announcement of her pregnancy.
Earlier in the day, Harry and Meghan were photographed meeting an iconic resident of Australia at Taronga Zoo, during the second tour stop on Tuesday.
The Duke and Duchess chatted to zoo keepers as they got up close and personal to a koalas. While Meghan appeared a bit hesitant at first, Harry was happy to get in and pat the animals.
The two animals were actually their namesake koalas, Harry and Meghan.
“This was our gift to them on their wedding day along with a donation towards preserving koala habitats,” NSW Premier Gladys shared on Instagram.
The royals visited the zoo for the official Opening of the Taronga Institute of Science and Learning.
“
Meghan also stepped in to help, cutting the ribbon to open the new institute.
After the opening Harry and Meghan received flowers from two young preschoolers. They crouched down to meet the youngsters with Harry asking them both what their names were and telling them “you’re doing a good job”.
Earlier this morning the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have officially met with the Governor-General for a welcome event at Admiralty House.
Meghan was positively glowing during her first appearance after the palace announced she and Harry were expecting their first child.
Harry and Meghan mingled with the Governor-General Sir Peter Cosgrove and his wife Lady Cosgrove, as well as Aussie sporting legend and Invictus Games ambassador Ian Thorpe, and NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian on the lawns of Admiralty House.
Ian Thorpe said the event provided an opportunity to acknowledge and thank all the volunteers for their work on the Invictus games.
“The people that were there were volunteers and represented all the countries competing in the games,” Thorpe told Sunrise.
On his quick meeting with the Duke and Duchess, Thorpe said of course congratulations were in order.
“I congratulated them of course, and they said they are happy they can finally tell the world their very exciting news.
“Prince Harry has done an exceptional job at putting this all together. When I spent time with the athletes they are so grateful that they have this opportunity.”
Meghan looked stunning in a figure-hugging dress by Australian designer Karen Gee.
While it looked like a rather unassuming ivory design, the frock is actually called the “Blessed Dress” which is a feeling we’re sure rings true for the excited parents to be.
The dress is described on their website as “a simple, structured fit designed to contour the body for a sleek silhouette”.
Meghan paired the look with nude stiletto heels and wore her hair in perfect, duchess waves.
Her and Harry were looking even more loved-up than ever – if that’s even possible. There was plenty of PDA and hand-holding during the event.
The group then went into the house where Sir Peter Cosgrove gave the pair a toy wallaby for their unborn child. And a pair of tiny Ugg boots.
Meghan and Harry touched down in Sydney yesterday ahead of their 16-day stint in Australia.
During that time, they will take in all the sights of Australia, before heading to Fiji, Tonga and New Zealand, meeting with locals and carrying out engagements at the Invictus Games in Sydney.
Kensington Palace has revealed that their trip ‘will focus on youth leadership, and projects being undertaken by young people to address the social, economic, and environmental challenges of the region’.
