Emma Watson clarifies ‘self partnered’ comments, says you don't have to be single
Emma Watson has shed light on her claim that she is “self-partnered”.
The 29-year-old actor and activist coined the term “self-partnered” in a British Vogue interview in November.
On the topic of pressures facing women in the run-up to turning 30, the former ‘Harry Potter’ satr spoke about learning to be happy single.
“It took me a long time, but I’m very happy [being single]. I call it being self-partnered,” she told the publication.

The term sparked global media attention and prompted a slew of response pieces.
Now, Watson has provided extra clarity on what she meant
Speaking to E!’s ‘The Rundown’ at Sunday’s ‘Little Women’ LA premiere, Watson clarified exactly what “self-partnered” means.
“It’s much more about your relationship with yourself and the feeling of not somehow deficient in some way because you’re not with someone,” she said.
She also spoke of her surprise at how much attention the “throwaway” comment had generated.

“I literally said it as a throwaway comment, thinking it would go no further,” she said.
“And then I woke up the next morning and my phone’s blowing up and I don’t know why and it’s all my friends messaging me being like, ‘Self-partnered?’ This thing’s gone crazy.’”
Despite the unexpected attention, she said she’s “so happy people feel empowered” by her comments.
In the past, Watson has been romantically-linked to British financier, Jay Barrymore, and Silicon Valley manager, Mack Knight.
The media intrigue that Watson’s “self-partnered” phrase has attracted is comparable to the attention surrounding Gwyneth Paltrow’s oft-quoted “conscious uncoupling”, a term she coined for her amicable separation from ex-husband Chris Martin in 2014 after 10 years of marriage.
