Elle Macpherson under fire for advising women to skip meals to slim down
She’s known as ‘The Body’ for a reason but Elle Macpherson has come under fire for encouraging women to skip meals in order to get “beach body ready.”
The 54-year-old supermodel was presenting a segment on ‘This Morning’ advising viewers about how to look better in swimwear.
“Summer’s coming up, and I too am getting ready for my summer body,” she said.
“I know that sounds really corny, but we all think about that.”
As one of the tips, the mum-of-two explained that she swaps dinner for a protein shake and also removed “anything white” from her diet.
“Sometimes I’ll use it as a meal replacement in the evenings,” she continued.
“If I’ve had a really strong breakfast or a strong lunch I can get away with having a protein shake for dinner.”
The model went on to say that swapping shakes for proper meals should only be done occasionally and was only meant for targeted weight loss.
She also said she cuts out rice, bread, cream and ‘anything white’ from her diet to drop unwanted weight in time for summer.

But not everyone was impressed with the advice with many viewers taking to social media to express their confusion about the segment.
“Why are @thismorning promoting ‘beach body ready’ with @ellemacpherson talking about how she sometimes replaces dinner with a protein shake? NO. The only way to be beach body ready is by putting on suncream and a swimsuit #ThisMorning,” one viewer wrote.
“#ElleMacPherson why does a woman have to lose weight to look good in a swimsuit? Lovely body shaming moment there by putting pressure on women to worry about their appearance!” another woman tweeted.

“How to get beach body ready aka advocating skipping meals and increasing the pressure on women to worry even more about their appearance this summer. Fantastic. How about just go as u r?!” another user tweeted.

But not everyone was anti the advice given in the segment.
“She was only telling us she prefers to lose weight before hitting the beach & how she does so. Many slim celebs falsely claim they eat what they want, which is misleading,” one viewer tweeted.

It isn’t the first time Elle Macpherson has spoken out about her diet. Earlier this month she revealed that she’d embarked on a diet overhaul when she entered her fifties.
“I realised that I couldn’t really rely on genetics anymore,” she told InStyle Australia.
“From an early age, I learned to look after myself – I would make sure I was in shape, and people expected a lot. (But) then, as time moved on, I realised that I couldn’t really rely on genetics anymore. The things I’d been doing since my twenties weren’t working in my fifties.”
Elle now lives by a wholefood diet rich in fruit and vegetables and insisted that the results had been “transforming.”
